Admissions Requirements


Step 1: Applications:
Applications for admission may be obtained from the school upon request or on line, www.christhospital.org. A $50.00 NON-REFUNDABLE processing fee must accompany the application.

Deadline for Application:
May 1st of the year of entry. (subject to change pending completion of enrollment)
Early Application/Testing Process is Advised.

Admissions Requirements:

  1. An official high school transcript or G.E.D. with scores. The Board of Radiologic Technology, State of N.J. states “An applicant who presents a home schooling high school certificate/diploma must also include a state issued G.E.D.”
  2. Required General Education: Established by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, completed before the candidate can graduate and sit for the ARRT registry certification exam.
    *Required College General Education:
    There must be a minimum of 15 credit hours of general college course work.
    • Mathematical/Logical reasoning (required)
    • Written/Oral Communications (required)
    • Arts and Humanities
    • Information Systems
    • Social/Behavioral Sciences
    • Natural Sciences — Anatomy and Physiology required for the class of 2015, starting 2013

A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or "C" must be documented for all college courses. All college courses must be from an academic institution that is recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE). Remedial college courses will only be acceptable if credits are earned for these courses. College Level Examination Program (CLEP) testing as well as any high school courses that result in college credits (Advanced Placement) would be acceptable.

Official transcripts should be sent at the time of application. Any prerequisite course material as well as an official transcript will be evaluated the year of the applicant's entry as determined by the Admissions Committee of Christ Hospital School of Radiography.

Step 2: Technical Standards for Essential Job Functions
Please read and sign the attached form that states you are capable of fulfilling these requirements. Download the forms here and return with application.

Step 3: Entrance Examination — October through May
Psychological Services Bureau Occupations Aptitude Examination-Revised is given for the entrance examination. Applicant should  receive a preferred average of 25% or above in Academic Aptitude and Reading Comprehension in order to begin the interview process. www.psbtests.com PSB Health Occupations Study Guide. Tests may be repeated once in an application year, highest score accepted. Testing ends the third week of May. There will be a one (1) point deduction on the application summation form for retesting.

Applicant must have completed a minimum of four college courses (12 credits) in order to sit for the Aptitude Exam.

A NON-REFUNDABLE $50.00 fee for testing is required.


Step 4: Recommendations / References
Two letters of recommendation (no relatives or friends.) Must be submitted prior to the interview.

Step 5: Interview Process and Visitation
The interview and visitation in the Radiology Department will be scheduled. The interview will be conducted by the Program Director and Clinical Coordinator. A designee will take the candidate on an extensive tour of the site to shadow and experience what radiographers do as they perform their regular job duties.

Step 6: Acceptance into the School Program

  • The acceptance into the School Program is made by members of the Admissions Committee.
  • The Interview Process is scheduled October through June.
  • After test scores are received by the program, an academic evaluation of the candidate’s college credits and life experiences are reviewed.

Acceptance into the program is based on the following criteria:

  1. Preferred average score of 25% or better in the Academic Aptitude and Reading Comprehension portion on the P.S.B. Occupation Examination.

  2. Academic assessment of high school and required college courses — Preference  is given to applicants who have successfully met the 5 courses requirement. The remaining 3 college credits must be completed by the end of their Junior Year. In order to graduate and sit for the ARRT certification exam, all 15 credits must have been completed by the student.
  3. In addition to the above requirements, extracurricular activities, references, life experiences, and related activities such as health-related careers and volunteering are considered in the application process.
  4. Selection of candidates is monthly, in order to allow ample time for financial and career obligations to be met.
  5. Successful passing of mandatory background check.
  6. A pre-application to the ARRT.org (fee $100.00) is required if the candidate may not eligible to sit for the registry examination, due to a conviction record that may affect their eligibility to sit for the Registry.
  7. Extension of the application deadline is at the sole discretion of the program administration.
  8. Applicants will receive notification through the mail. Once the class is filled (22 students), any additional applicants will be placed on a waiting list as alternates (10 students).

New ARRT Requirements for 2015:
The new ARRT regulation state that candidates applying for certification beginning January 1, 2015, (Class starting 2013) must have earned a minimum of an associates degree from an accredited institution accepted by the ARRT to be eligible to sit for the ARRT exam. The degree does not have to be in radiologic sciences, however, it must include three (3) credit courses in Math/Logical reasoning; Written/Oral Communications; Anatomy; and Physiology.

Non-Immigrant Students
We are not approved for non-immigrant students or foreign exchange students by the United States Department of Justice.

Transfer Students
We do not accept transfer students into the School Program.

Pregnant Personnel
Any student suspecting that she may be pregnant may volunteer to notify the Program. The pregnant individual should inform the program of their status as soon as it becomes known to them. A physician’s note verifying the pregnancy status and outlining any physical or other limitations shall be provided upon request.

Upon confirmation, the student will discuss the available options with the Program Director and form a written mutual agreement concerning educational continuation and counseling regarding radiation concerns to be discussed with the Radiation Physicist and Medical Advisor.

Available Options:

  1. If the confirmation of pregnancy occurs within the first semester, the student may choose to withdraw from the program and return at the beginning of the first semester the following year, there will be no additional entrance fees.
  2. If the pregnancy occurs after the completion of the first semester, the student may choose to withdraw from the program and re-enter the following year at the beginning of the same semester as withdrawal. There will be no additional fees.
  3. If the student does not choose to withdraw from the program, all didactic and clinical requirements must be satisfactorily met before a diploma will be granted. This may be accomplished by choosing one of the options listed:
    a: attending all didactic sessions and requesting a clinical leave of absence. All competency based evaluations must be fulfilled after the pregnancy is completed.
    b: attending all didactic sessions and clinical rotations during the pregnancy. Complete information about pregnancy policy is given upon request.
