The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health strives to meet the overall mission of the hospital by providing a variety of mental health and addiction services in an effort to improve the collective well being of the community. Acute Care Services
Psychiatric Emergency
Our Psychiatric Emergency Services provides immediate, short-term help for individuals in crisis. Psychiatric Emergency Services are indicated if a person is in danger of hurting oneself or others or is experiencing an increase of psychiatric and / or substance abuse symptoms. Psychiatric Emergency Services also provide psychiatric assessments and referrals. The main number to call is 201-795-8374. Services and coverage are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Adult Voluntary Inpatient Unit
Each patient on our voluntary psychiatric inpatient unit receives an individually formulated plan of care developed by a multi-disciplinary team to stabilize the individual and help them along the road to recovery. Admissions are accepted from Christ Hospital’s Psychiatric Emergency Service, local physicians, Community Mental Health Centers, and from a variety of other community referral sources. The multi-disciplinary team consists of highly trained psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, social workers, activities therapists, and other mental health professionals. Outpatient Behavioral Health Services
Outpatient Behavioral Health offers a variety of Mental Health and Substance Abuse and Addiction treatment services for children, adolescents, adults and older adults, both in individual and group settings. When the client is a child or adolescent, parents/legal guardians are also included in the treatment process. Mental Health Services
Outpatient Mental Health
Short and long-term individual, couples and family therapy are conducted by licensed social workers professionals. Some of the treatment services include; relationship counseling, dealing with depression, anxiety, lifecycle transitions, coping with loss/death/dying, serious and persistent mental illness and co-occurring treatment for individuals dealing with both mental illness and substance abuse. We also offer English and Spanish therapeutic groups for anger management, medication monitoring and case management.
Hudson County Rape Crisis Center & Violence Against Women (VAWA) Program
The Hudson County Rape Crisis Center provides confidential assessment and counseling services for incest and rape victims 12 years of age and above. A 24 hour / 7 days a week Victim Hotline, (201)-795-5757, is maintained by highly trained advocates who also respond to rape and sexual assault victims and provide educational and preventative services throughout Hudson County. The VAWA Program provides services to victims of domestic violence, stalking and date violence.
Healthy Options for Parents through Education (HOPE)
Assessment, counseling, parenting training and referral services for families affected by or at risk of child abuse. HOPE also provides assessment and counseling for incest and rape victims 12 years of age and under.
Women’s Project
Educational workshops and seminars are provided on topics such as separation, divorce, domestic violence, parenting, and assertiveness training to enhance self-esteem, financial independence, health and well-being of women in Hudson County.
Perinatal Support Services
Assessment and counseling for women and their partners who are at risk for or are suffering from postpartum depression. Support is provided for women who are pregnant, have recently given birth or have suffered a miscarriage, stillborn baby or infant death.
Ryan White (HIV) Support Services
Mental health and substance abuse services are provided for clients who are HIV positive. Clients who are unable to access services at Christ Hospital due to physical illness receive in-home therapeutic services from licensed therapists and addiction specialists.
Substance Abuse and Addiction Services
Christ Hospital Adolescent Treatment (CHAT) Program
CHAT offers short-term (8-10 week) early intervention program for at risk youth living in Hudson County between 13 and 18 years of age. Clients receive educational and therapeutic services through individual, group, and family sessions.
Youth Comprehensive Treatment (YCT) Program
YCT is an Intensive outpatient counseling program for adjudicated youth (14-17) with substance abuse and mental health disorders residing in Hudson County.
Outpatient Drug Free (OPDF)/Co-Occurring Program
A16-24 week program that address’s both mental health and substance abuse. Clients are encouraged to confront and effectively cope with issues such as substance abuse and anxiety, depression, impulse control/anger and child abuse and neglect through individual, group and family sessions.
Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Clients attending the IOP meet three nights a week for three hours and receive group, individual and family therapy.
Intoxicated Drivers Resource Center/DUI Education Program
A sixteen week structured educational program that covers such topics as recognizing relapse triggers, developing a sober and positive support network, dealing with guilt in recovery and building self-esteem.
Project Second Chance
Intensive outpatient substance abuse and case management services to DYFS involved women from Jersey City who are recovering from drug/alcohol addiction.
